Demonstration Strategy/ method

Demonstration:
  • An act of showing something by giving proof or evidence.
  • An instance of somebody showing and explaining how something works.
Demonstration Strategy:
  • Demonstration strategy is a teaching method that allows students to see the teacher actively engaged as a learner and a model rather then merely telling them what they need to know.
Roles of the teacher:
  • Giving instruction.
  • Handling equipments.
  • Enables active Participation from the students.
  • Before hand preparation.
Roles of the students:
  • Listening to the instruction.
  • Active participation.
  • Handle the hands on experience.
  • Seeing by doing / doing by seeing.
Purpose of  Demonstration Strategy:
  • To stimulate interest in a particular topic/subject.
  • To illustrate points efficiently.
  • To provide a change of pace.
  • Lack of equipments.
  • Time constraint.
  • Risky Experiment.
Principles of Demonstration Strategy:
  • Behaviors being demonstrated must be modeled accurately.
  • Learners must be able to perceive clearly what is going on.
  • Appropriate demonstration, explanation and discussion are the key things that enhances the student performance.
Types of Demonstration:
  • Pure Demonstration (only teacher will demonstrate and the learner are the mere spectator).
  • Demonstration with commentary (Teacher will demonstrate and the learner will ask questions).
  • Participative Demonstration (Both learner and the teacher  are involved).
Procedure of Demonstration:
  • Carefully plan the demonstration.
  • Practice the demonstration.
  • Develop an out line to guide the demonstration.
  • Make sure everyone can see the demonstration.
  • Introduce the demonstration to focus attention.
  • Ask and encourage the questioning.
  • Plan a follow up to the demonstration.
Advantages of Demonstration Strategy:
  • Seeing before doing: Benefits from seeing before having to do.
  • Task Guidance: Can be guided step by step.
  • Economy supplies: Less supplies needed because not everyone needs to handle the material.
  • Safety: Allows teacher to control potentially dangerous materials or machinery instead of students.
  • Promote Self-Confidence
  • Students gets familiarized with the materials / apparatus.
  • No time is Wasted.
Disadvantages of Demonstration Strategy:
  • It is not a direct hands on experience for the student unless being lead step by step.
  • Students may not have an equal view of demonstration, so some may miss an aspect of the demonstration.
  • Not all the students will be able to follow single paced demonstration.
  • Teachers laziness and preparedness.
My views on Demonstration Strategy:
  •  Today in this class I Learned that Learning is more prior than the time as in demonstration strategy it is said that if there is no learning with the time then its just the wastage of time but if there is learning along with the time then no matter how long it takes it doesn't matter only thing is that there should be learning.
  • I think this Demonstration strategy will help me in the mere future as it conveys information more efficiently and helps in building up an interest of the student towards the particular topic or the subject. As I believe that learning is efficient when the students interest are involved in learning.

  1. Dear Gyem,
It is good to see you being up to date with your work. As a teacher it is always good to ask oneself, what you want to demonstrate, why and what opportunities will you provide students to transfer their learning in real life context.........the planning aspect is very important.
    Good day mate!
