Deductive
Teaching Strategy:
·
A deductive teaching is more
teacher-centered approach. This means that the teacher gives the students a new
concept, explains it, and then has the students practice using the concept. For
example, when teaching a new grammar concept, the teacher will introduce the
concept, explain the rules related to its use, and finally the students will
practice using the concept in a variety of different ways.
·
In deductive teaching strategy
students are taught from unknown to known, complex to simple idea, abstract to
concrete, etc…….
Direct Instruction:
It is a
method of instruction in which principle to generalization are presented
initially.
Proposes of Deductive teaching Strategy:
·
Retains better
information.
·
Results in
better transfer of learning.
·
Deductive mode
of inquiry is effective when the students have a limited background of the
subject.
·
Less time
consuming as it is more focused on time.
·
Teacher can use
a broad spectrum of materials and means of presentation in the classroom.
Phase in deductive teaching strategy:
Phase1: Presentation
of abstraction. Here the teacher defines the concept or states the
generalization.
Phase2:Here the teacher gives the
examples.
Phase3: Here the student tries to give
their own examples.
Phase4:Here the student tries to apply what
they have learned.
Role of the teacher:
·
Provides
information to the students.
·
Act
as an information coordinator.
Role of the Student:
·
They
just listen to the teacher’s instruction and information(passive listener),
·
Carries
out the activity after the teacher’s instruction.
